What I Like About The Canon Powershot Sd780is Compact Digital Camera

by Steven Tyler

I did a lot of searching for the best price before I decided to buy the Canon Powershot Sd780isĀ  Review. I found the lowest price on Amazon. I am not particular to Amazon. Although I have not had any problems with them so far and I have ordered several other products from them with no problems. I received this camera sooner than I expected.

This Canon sd780is comes in red, black, silver, and gold. I like red so I ordered the red one. Of course the first thing I did was put everything together without looking at the instructions. Which was ok so far because putting the battery and the memory in does not take very long to figure out. The battery of course did not last long so I went ahead and charged it up. It did not take very long I think about a couple of hours.

Once I got the battery charged I set the camera on auto mode and began to start snapping away of course. I took several pictures and several videos on auto mode. So after a while I decided to plug the camera into my computer and see what I got. You can see the pictures on the 2.5 wide LCD screen on the camera, but I wanted to see what they looked like on my computers high resolution monitor.

My Imac computer did not have any problems recognizing the camera and I did not have to install any software I just plugged the camera in with the usb cable that was included with the camera. In about 3 seconds the pictures came up and I was absolutely blown away at how clear and crisp these pics were. I could not believe the high quality of the photos from such a small camera being a little smaller than a deck of cards. The purpose of this review.

As far as the video goes I will say that I have a top of the line Sony High Definition Camcorder and the video on this little Canon sd780is is just as good if not better. I did have some fast movements in the videos but I found out later if I hold the camera steady and not move very fast the videos come out excellent. I like the fact that I that this camera has a HDMI output on it and I can just connect this camera to my HDTV or my computer with my HDMI cable (not included). This camera does not come with a HDMI cable but it does come with USB cable. I bought a 6 ft mini HDMI cable on Amazon for $3.32.

After a while of shooting on auto mode I decided to try some low light shots so at this point I had to drag out the instruction manual. I found out this little camera does have some advanced self program modes you can set manually. I am not going to name all of them but here are a few.

  • Change recording pixels.
  • Change compression ratio.
  • Adjust exposure compensation.
  • Continuous shooting.
  • Change ISO speed.
  • Custom white balance.
  • Change the tone of an image
  • Custom set timer.
  • Change composition

I do not like to take pictures with a flash from a point and shoot camera because the shots do not come out natural. So for the low light shots I set the Canon sd780is on Tungsten in the white balance setting and I set the ISO to 400 and then I set the camera on the table and set the timer to 2 seconds. There was very little low light in this room and the shot came out beautiful.

I take this little Canon Powershot sd780is with me everywhere I go and I just drop it in my shirt pocket and take off. I am always taking pics and shooting videos of my daughter with this camera.
